I had the privilege of sitting down with two hilarious hosts, YouTube personality Hunter March and Vine sensation Thomas Sanders for Count Me In which took place at the Sony Centre (Read our review here).
For these two Americans, the first stop in Canada was, of course, Tim Hortons! After trying timbits and a red velvet cupcake, they ventured to Smokes Poutinnerie for some traditional poutine. They instantly fell in love and knew they would have to come back to Canada, even if it was for just the poutine!
Hunter originally began posting videos on YouTube as a creative outlet because he loved performing. His first video gained him 500 subscribers on his channel and he thought that he had ‘made it’. He kept perusing his passion of entertaining people and now has over 200,000 subscribers. He decided to get involved with Count Me In after Shane reached out to him with this amazing opportunity to be involved with kids who are making positive changes in their communities.
Having gone through high school himself, he was inspired by a teacher who let the class do slam poetry. He credits this class with changing his life.
“[Slam poetry] lead me to performing and hosting and a lot of things in my life that came through in an amazing way,” Hunter explained. Hunter was so inspired by his fellow speakers at Count Me In that he said he would be doing a lot more inspirational videos, maybe inspired by the great Shane Feldman, “he’s definitely inspired me to do that with my channel”.
With a 5.5 million following on Vine, Thomas Sanders has proven a six second video can be more than meets the eye. His creativity is consistently being showcased in his hilarious Vine clips, which surprisingly, take a lot more behind the scenes people than you would think. His now popular catchphrase, “Story Time” was something he was not expecting.
When asked about his success, Thomas responded, “I had no idea that would be a thing! Everybody asks that and I can’t believe that’s a thing now! I just did it. It’s another one of those things that I’ve tried and it just happened to succeed.”
He also agrees that trying something you are passionate about and putting in hard work can lead to amazing results. “There are times when you feel overwhelmed but you are strong, you are going to get through it and you have the potential to make a change with what you have been given”.
Thomas is adding new Vines to his page daily and consistently coming up with new creativity not even he knew he had in him. Always push yourself! We can’t wait to see where these funnymen will be next!
