“This is For Toronto” is an event/documentary screening that took place at Rebel, Toronto’s newest event and entertainment venue located at 11 Polson Ave, previously The Sound Academy.
To start, there was a red carpet to take photos of guests. It was very exciting that Potential Productions and Outspoken Media Productions had the opportunity to screen their documentary prior to the grand opening of Rebel on October 2, 2016. This gave their guests a first hand opportunity to explore the new venue which added a very intimate and exclusive touch.
Rebel itself has a chic and edgy vibe- with collections of art throughout the décor that depicts a collage of both reptiles and butterflies – with rock and roll inspired lighting fixtures. The venue has lots of window space and impeccable views of the city skyline.
Guests were welcomed to try out food from “The Real Jerk”– classic and infamous Caribbean food, known to be a favorite of artist Drake, and location for where his video ‘Work’ was filmed. The food was delicious! Guests could also help themselves to spirits at the cash bar, and snacks provided by Toronto Popcorn. Other sponsors included Vasanti and DJX.
“This is For Toronto” is a documentary that covers the history, culture, and entertainment for the city of Toronto. The filmmakers interviewed various music and entertainment industry influencers who all had an opinion on the entertainment industry in Toronto, and its overall presence in emphasizing Toronto’s cultural importance to residents who live here. The documentary was informative, and relative to anyone who lives in Toronto and can identify with what it really means to live in this city.
The filmmakers really instilled and emphasis on “Toronto Pride” and Toronto having a name for itself worldwide. It was an interesting film and I would recommend it.
